Designing with Glass and Heat

Close-up of a glass and steel oculus roof structure

A glazed circulation spine at equatorial latitude is, structurally speaking, a greenhouse. Lines / Light needed the clarity of low-iron glass without the heat gain that clarity usually brings.

Three revisions of the roof rib spacing and a change to a lower-reflectance coating brought internal surface temperatures down by eleven degrees against the first iteration.

The final section is now a reference detail we return to whenever a project asks for glass roofing in direct tropical sun.
